What types of leather do you use for your products?

We take pride in using only high-quality leather to ensure durability and character. Depending on the item, we use one of these three premium types:

  • Vachetta Leather: A premium vegetable-tanned leather celebrated for its natural scent and its ability to develop a beautiful, unique patina over time.

  • Waxy Leather: A high-end, full-grain leather that has been deeply treated with a specialized blend of oils and waxes (like beeswax or carnauba) for a smooth, protective finish.

  • Pull-up Leather: An aniline-dyed leather infused with oils and waxes. It is designed to lighten in color when stretched or folded, creating a rugged, vintage aesthetic that evolves with use.

What is full-grain leather, and why do you use it?
Full-grain leather is the highest grade available, using the outermost layer of the hide without any sanding or buffing to remove natural marks. We use it because it is the strongest, most breathable part of the hide and develops a rich, unique patina over time.

What are these marks on my leather? Are they defects?
No, those are "character marks." Because we use unadulterated full-grain hides, you may see subtle scars, insect bites, or stretch marks from the animal’s life. These are hallmarks of authentic, high-quality leather and ensure your piece is one-of-a-kind.

Why does my waxed leather item have scratches? Is it a defect?
Not at all. Waxed leather (like Pull-up or Crazy Horse leather) is designed to "record" its journey. The wax coating displaces when rubbed or scratched, creating lighter marks. These are not defects; they are a signature feature of high-quality, distressed leather. You can easily "heal" these marks by rubbing them with a warm thumb or applying a bit of leather balm, which redistributes the natural oils and waxes.

What is "hand-stitching," and how is it different from machine sewing?
We use the traditional saddle stitch technique, which involves two needles and a single thread passing through each hole in a figure-eight pattern. Unlike a machine lockstitch, which can unravel if one thread breaks, a hand-sewn saddle stitch remains secure even if a thread is cut, making it significantly more durable.

Why are your products more expensive than mass-market leather?
Our prices reflect the cost of premium hides and the intensive labor involved. For example, a single hand-stitched wallet can take up to 8 hours to complete, while an iPod case with tranditional wet-molding may take 25 to 80 hours. You are paying for a product designed to last decades, not just a few seasons.

Can I request a product without your brand name or logo?
To maintain the authenticity and provenance of our work, we do not offer unbranded items. Our discreet logo is a hallmark of our hand-stitched construction and serves as our signature of quality. We take pride in every piece that leaves our shop, and our branding is our guarantee that your item was crafted using traditional methods and premium full-grain leather.

Do you accept custom orders?
Yes, we do accept custom requests, provided they align with our current leather stock, thread colors and signature hand-stitched aesthetic. While we love bringing new ideas to life, we stay within our specific craft expertise and style to ensure every piece meets our high standards for durability and style. If you have a project in mind, please contact us to discuss if it fits within our current capabilities and material availability.

I have a case/item from another brand. Can you copy the design for me?

No. We do not replicate or "copy" designs from other brands or makers. We take great pride in our own original patterns and our signature hand-stitched aesthetic. While we accept custom orders that fit our style and leather stock, we will only craft items that reflect our own design philosophy and craftsmanship standards.

How do I care for my leather goods?
Gently wipe away dust with a soft, dry cloth regularly. Every 3–6 months, apply a high-quality leather conditioner to keep the fibers hydrated and prevent cracking. Always test any care product on a small, hidden area first.

What should I do if my leather gets wet?
Blot the water immediately with a dry cloth and let it air dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a hairdryer or heater, as direct heat can warp and crack the leather.

How should I store my items when not in use?
Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade the color. Use a breathable cloth dust bag rather than plastic, as leather needs to "breathe" to prevent mold.
